Tuesday 5th May - Isabel

During these days of Lockdown and Self distancing it is understandable that we become disheartened, lonely, bored. All of that and more. It has been a long few week and maybe some are fearful that the dreaded virus will hit you or your loved ones. Truth is all of us hold that fear somewhere in our minds, but we must not allow it to dominate our thoughts we must look at the positives that are there for each one of us. We are all in this together.
We look at Captain Tom and cannot believe the impact that one man has made during these past few weeks. One positive decision to walk 100 laps for the NHS in celebration of his 100th birthday. What an inspiration to young and old. People have shown their appreciation by donating…what a champion. Of course, we can’t all walk 100 laps, but we should all try and find some positive thing to do. Phone a friend or someone you haven’t spoken to for some time. Listen to some music maybe have a dance round the room as you listen or join in singing to whoever you’re listening to. We are all in this together…we are walking the same road and hoping to get to the end of it unscathed and hopefully better people for having had this time out of the madness of our world.

Easter was only a few weeks ago and when I read in my Bible the story of the The Walk to Emmaus (Luke 24:13 – 25) I am reminded that just as the two disciples didn’t recognise Christ as He walked with them on that road to Emmaus that just might be where you are. Christ recognised their discouragement, their sadness at the events of the crucifixion and their feeling of despair and possibly fear as Christians were being persecuted. Yet He walked with them….a companion on the road but they didn’t recognise Him. Sometimes our situation overwhelms us . Our fears, our concerns for health issues or issues of those that we love. The fear of not seeing loved ones again. Many are out of work which then brings more stresses re finances and I could go on. Some of these situations I too have concerns about but these words in Luke remind me ‘that Jesus Himself draws near and walks with me’. Take hope friend be reassured that the longer this goes on the longer we need to recognise the Christ walks on this road with us.
Listen now to the beautiful song, written by Joy Webb in the 60’s. Hold on to the words, taken from this song.
All time will pass into eternity
And man must venture on a life unknown:
Journey alone, each to his own destiny:
In life or death, amidst uncertainty,
Only one thing can still make him strong:
In the pain, in the doubt, in the loneliness,
In the struggle of right against wrong:
Somewhere amidst the confusion,
There will be hope, there will be love,
There will be God.
