God is With Us!

Daily life has become very different for all of us, our families, our neighbours, our communities, our nation and indeed, the world globally. Covid-19 keeps us from our normal routines, whatever they looked like - work, education, clubs, practices, church - meeting with family also has its limitations. We’ve quickly had to adapt to keeping in touch in different ways, other than face to face – perhaps post-Covid-19 we will value coming together more.
I always buy Christmas Cards in the Spring…..in the sales…..As I was looking at some this week, I was reminded of the message of Christmas, the celebration of love come down; God revealed to us through a baby in the manger. He came into the mess of the world, Immanuel ‘God with us’
In the midst of these uncharted days we need more than ever to hold on to that truth, God is with us. He walks with us through the difficulties of these days, through the loneliness, the fears, the uncertainty of this present time - God is with us, He is constant, the one sure thing in whom we can trust. As the old song reminds us: “He walks with me and He talks with them and He tells me I am His own”….
Romans 8 verse 38 reminds us that nothing can ever separate us from His love:
And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
We cannot be complacent in these days, but we cannot give way to fear either when we know that God is present. In these uncertain days we have a solid rock to stand firm on, a God who reaches down and meets with us, strengthening us in times of trouble.
He is, as the Psalmist writes, ‘Ever Present’. Let’s hold tight to the truth of God’s word in these uncertain times, and encourage one another through prayers and keeping in touch, through any means we can, sharing God’s love in these days.As we reflect on these words from Romans 8 today let’s consider God’s incredible love for us, a bond so strong that nothing can break it. Maybe you could ring someone, Facetime, Zoom and bring them company, fellowship & a listening ear? A reminder they too are not alone, and our loving father is ever present.
A card we sometimes send has these words:-
In your time of trouble, we think of you. May God set at rest the crowded, anxious, and hurrying thoughts within your heart & mind. May His peace and quiet take possession of your soul. He knows you and you circumstance, and, by His Spirit, He can bring a calm and peace otherwise unknown. Be sure you are in our thoughts & prayers at this difficult time. Remember, you are never alone for we are with you and our loving God is ever near.
And all God’s Soldiers said, AMEN!

Can you help?
In this current situation when our church doors are closed to our normal activities but our work to support those in need continues, our normal source of funds (Sunday Tithes and Offerings) have reduced dramatically. We need your help, so that we continue to be ready to meet the ongoing needs of our community that will undoubtedly impact beyond this lock down period. If you are willing to help please visit our Just Giving Page to make a donation to this work. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bedfordsa
